PANS stands for Pediatric Acute-Onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome.

PANDAS stands for Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder Associated with Streptococcal Infections.

PITAND stands for Pediatric Infection-triggered Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder.

These conditions are infection-triggered autoimmune disorders affecting a part of the brain called the basal ganglia, which can result in numerous neuropsychiatric symptoms. Often, you may notice an abrupt distinct change in behavioral patterns of your child or these changes in behaviors may seem gradual and ebb and flow. These symptoms may manifest as obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) like behaviors, restrictive eating that can become dangerous to the child, involuntary movements-tics, behavior regression or aggression, and/or social withdrawal from a previously outgoing child.

PANS is a broader syndrome that can include PANDAS. While PANDAS is a disorder categorized by a Strep infection, PANS may be caused by various infectious agents and non-infectious triggers...think mold. PITAND is similar to PANS, and often used interchangeably, but specific to infection driven triggers only.

Infections that have been reported in patients with PANS include: Influenza, Mycoplasma Pneumonia, Tick-borne infections, COVID, Varicella, URIs, and even the basic Bronchitis or Rhino-sinusitis.

Often, these triggers can exacerbate an already challenged immune system or can go undiagnosed or misdiagnosed and mistreated, leading to future health challenges. Although, many clinical studies are showing evidence of the molecular mimicry in the brain leading to autoimmune scenarios from these otherwise common childhood diseases, conventional medicine is lagging in proper diagnosis and treatment guidelines. Our world is becoming more toxic, children are exhibiting more challenged immune system scenarios and our medical system is lacking the urgency to catchup with the daunting scenario affecting many of our children today.

Bamboo Wellness Institute has been created as a resource for parents. This website is designed to help parents learn what the mechanisms of action are, to find the answers and direction they need to help their children regain health and wellness, as rapidly as possible. We need tools and knowledge to navigate our children's health with a complicated medical system and insurance industry resisting treatment options necessary for these challenging conditions. Bamboo Wellness Institute has the tools and the support to help parents help their kids.
